What you can expect from your first Brazilian Wax.
You may choose to have your Brazilian wax performed by either our male or female therapists. We are fully qualified and licenced professionals with many years of waxing experience. You are welcome to request your preferred therapist at the time of booking, or select your therapist online.
If you are currently on Accutane or Retin-A, Renova, Differin or isotretinoin please be advised that these medications can weaken the skin. We advise against waxing if you are on these medications to prevent unnecessary injury.
WHEN YOU ARRIVE
When you arrive at ARCHON Spas for your Brazilian wax you’ll be greeted warmly and offered a tea. If it’s your first treatment with us you will be required to fill out a quick form. You can sit amongst our vertical garden wall, smell our essential oils blends and listen to soothing music. This should have you nice and relaxed before your waxing treatment.
Once you’re ready we’ll invite you into a private room where you’ll be for approximately 15-20 minutes (depending on the wax). We’ll let you undress in private and lie on the table, which we cover in clean paper cloth and towels. If you are wearing a skirt you may also opt to leave it on. Some women prefer to arrive in skirts or similar so that they don’t feel completely naked and exposed. Skirts are also a good choice afterwards as they help the area to breathe.
DURING YOUR BRAZILIAN WAX
Once our hands are washed and our gloves are on we will wipe down the skin. This is done with a pre-wax solution to remove both oil and to kill bacteria. Talcum powder is then applied which prevents the wax from sticking directly to the skin. Then we can proceed to apply the wax and remove the pubic hair. Once all the hair has been removed we can then apply a soothing lotion.
IT’S A TEAM EFFORT
The process of having a Brazilian wax is fairly straightforward and is performed quickly. During your treatment we will ask that you assume a number of positions, as well as helping us to keep skin taught. Please rest assured that we have done this a thousand times, and there’s no need to feel embarrassed. Any compromising positions are designed to ensure an effective and efficient treatment, which means you can finish sooner and smoother.
The first time you get a Brazilian wax will undoubtedly hurt the most. Everyone experiences different levels of pain with different skin types and hair thickness. So, unfortunately, the only way to know for sure is to experience it yourself. The good news is that the more regularly you have a Brazilian wax the less painful it becomes.
The reason for this is that the hair follicle and bulb shrink over time with continued waxing. This means that as the hair grows back it’ll eventually become softer and finer, and therefore less painful. We suggest you get waxed every 4-6 weeks to maintain results. If you’re looking for a longer lasting Brazilian then laser hair removal might also be a solution.
Women’s Brazilian Waxing Frequently Asked Questions.
PRE-WAX / Cleanliness
When arriving for your Brazilian wax please arrive clean and ready. We do have refreshing wipes available if you are coming straight from work.
HAIR LENGTH / No Shaving
In order to maximise the effectiveness of your wax please ensure that the hair is at least 0.5cm, preferably 1cm. If you have recently shaved you will need to wait about 2 weeks for the hair to return. If the hair is too short prior to your appointment we will happily reschedule at no charge. On the flip-side, if you need a pre-wax trim we are able to do this for you.
BRAZILIAN TIPS / Essential
Before you come in for your appointment it can be a good idea to take an anti-inflammatory. We don’t deny that pain is an inevitable part of waxing, but we do try and minimise discomfort as much as possible. Please also refrain from using lotions on your bikini area prior to your Brazilian wax. The area needs to be made clean and dry in order to wax effectively. For post-wax comfort, it’s advisable to wear loose clothing, cotton underwear or no underwear.
PERIOD WAXING / Sensitised
If you are planning a Brazilian wax, we suggest making an appointment outside of your menstrual cycle. While we can still wax during your period, please be aware that your skin will be more sensitive and the treatment will be more painful. If your period arrives please don’t feel that you need to cancel your appointment.
HOT WAX / Sensitive Skin
Hot wax can also be referred to as hard wax, and is a substantially thicker, viscous wax that thoroughly coats the hair. When the wax cools down it hardens and becomes easy to remove taking the hair with it. Hot wax will benefit people who have sensitive skin and is less painful. Using hot wax also reduces your chance of getting ingrown hairs; which should be minimal if you follow after-wax care. Hot wax is the primary wax used when having a Brazilian wax.
STRIP WAX / Fast Results
*First we apply talcum powder. With strip wax, the warm wax is spread thin and evenly over the skin surface. A cloth is then applied and used to remove the wax and hair. This is done very quickly. We primarily would only use strip wax on the bikini line, rear Brazilian and lower abdomen if needed.
AFTER CARE / Post-Brazilian Wax
- Don’t take a bath, sauna or a steam room.
- Stay clear of soap as it can promote ingrown hairs.
- You can use a cold compress to soothe the area if required.
- Sex should be avoided as friction may cause inflammation.
- Stay clear of products full of chemicals, perfumes, and dyes.
- Touching freshly waxed skin can cause irritation or small pimples.
- Products with tea tree oil, lavender, and antibiotic ointments are good post-wax treatments to minimise discomfort and ingrown hairs. We have post-wax products available at our Brisbane salon if required.
AFTER CARE / 48 hours +
- Exfoliate the skin with a disposable cloth or exfoliating scrub to prevent introducing bacteria.
- You may use an acne cream or Alpha Hydroxy Acid.
